Periodontal Disease

Periodontal Disease is the leading cause of tooth loss. As if that is not enough reason to treat Periodontal Disease, the bacteria and pathogens in Periodontal Disease can spread throughout the body and contribute to systemic medical problems. Periodontal Disease can contribute to a higher incidence of heart disease, strokes, and premature births.

Periodontal disease is a chronic inflammatory condition that starts from the natural bacteria found in the mouth. This bacteria develops into a plaque that leads to tooth decay and Periodontal Disease.

There are contributing factors that can make a person more prone to Periodontal Disease. These factors include smoking, medical problems, side effects from medications, a bad bite, clenching and grinding the teeth, crowded or tipped teeth, and dental crowns that have lost their proper fit.
